| Namur takes the plunge and launches its tourist season by transforming the city into an aquatic centre Mar 28th 2019, 09:21, by info@bxlconnect.com (TBT News) In honour of the 2019 theme "Wallonia, land of water", Namur opens its tourist season on 30 March with the event "Namur takes the plunge," the Tourism Office announced on Tuesday. Many other activities around the water theme are programmed for the months ahead.
On Saturday, 30 March the Place d'Armes will be transformed into an aquatic centre. "Water balls", a fishing simulator, sampling river products and even a mobile sauna will delight young and old. A show on water protection awareness will also be offered to children (+3 years). All activities will be free of charge.
Guided boat tours on various themes will be organized in April: "Discovering bridges and gateways," "Harms and benefits of water throughout Namur's history", or "The use of water over the centuries".
The Olympia (boat recently docked) and the Namourettes (small Venice-inspired passenger boats) renew their cruise offers on the Meuse, and there will be guided tours of the citadel to discover how it was supplied with water.
For rest or restauration, there are many bars, cafés, restaurants (some established on barges or in hotels), such as the now famous Charlie's Capitainerie, with its floating terrace, or the Quai Novèle, an ephemeral bar located along the Meuse (open 15 June to 31 August).
