No strikes by airport security guards during Easter vacation
Travellers no longer have to fear a strike of airport security personnel during the Easter holidays.
The strike notice - rumoured to begin at the beginning of the Easter break in Belgium - was suspended following a proposal from employers in the sector, which must now be presented to employees, the socialist union FGTB said on Wednesday.

Personnel who screen passengers and carry-on baggage had threatened to take action at airports as early as Saturday. These workers demand better wages for their workload and atypical hours. A strike by the workers could have caused very long queues at the departure.

However, any strikes planned during the Easter holidays have now been suspended, according to Mathieu London of the FGTB's General Headquarters. A negotiation meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon, at which employers in the sector (mainly Securitas and Group 4) tabled a proposal on the table. It will now be presented to the workers, who will then vote.

The vote is scheduled for April 23, says the socialist trade unionist. "We'll then see if the text is approved or not."
